Robert Hilferding of Zephyrhills, Fla., won the Homebrewer of the Year award with his best-in-show entry in the Scottish and Irish ale category. “The level of competition has never been higher, meaning the National Homebrew Competition winners are truly among the most talented brewers in the world.” “This year’s National Homebrew Competition fielded the largest group of entrants in the competition’s 36 year history,” AHA Director Gary Glass said in a prepared statement. The association said there were 8,172 beers judged in the competition this year, making it the world’s largest beer contest. The Scioto, Olentangy & Darby Zymurgists also tied for sixth place in the AHA Club of the Year competition. He’s a member of the Delaware Ohio Homebrewers.
